RM790m boost for institute
JOHOR BARU: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia has received a financial boost in the form of a RM790 million grant to set up the Malaysia-Japan International Technology Institute (MJITT) in Kuala Lumpur.
UTM Vice-Chancellor (Innovation and Research) Professor Dr Marzuki Khalid said the allocation was approved by the cabinet in May to supplement the construction cost of the institute at the UTM campus in Kuala Lumpur.
The grant would also be used to finance the management of its operations that consisted of a board of advisers and teaching staff, including seven Japanese lecturers.
"The institute is expected to be completed by May next year. It will offer courses in precision engineering, electrical and electronics, green technology and technology management.
"The government supports the setting up of the institute following bilateral relations between Malaysia and Japan," Marzuki said yesterday during a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony between UTM and Yamagata University, Japan.
