33 ex-Mat Rempit 'graduate'

The RM200,000 programme was sponsored by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia's Youth Strengthening Centre and Permata Negara, under the Prime Minister's Department.
Permata patron Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor presented certificates to the 33 participants who completed the three-month course, which involved five different camps that built on their mental and physical strengths.
"We don't give up hope on these mischievous youths," she said. "We hope that through this pilot project, the participants will influence their friends to come and join the programme. Such programmes would benefit them in building their self-confidence and worthiness and help them find direction in life.
"These youths like high risk and challenging activities. Through such camps, they can be guided to become (legitimate) bike racers, for example."
Centre director Prof Dr Samsudin A. Rahim said another programme would be held this year.
